Female police officers from across the Metropolitan Police Service have taken part in leadership development to commemorate 100 years since women were allowed to join it.
Leading with Strengths was created and delivered by Capp, the development and assessment company, at New Scotland Yard.
The Metropolitan Police Service is the second largest police service in the world (NYPD is largest) and of its 31,000 police officers, around 23% are female, one of whom is its Commissioner Cressida Dick.
The day focused on helping participants discover their strengths – what they do well and do often, and what gives them energy when they are doing it – and how to bring those strengths into their roles every day.
The event, attended by 60 officers, also encouraged officers to be more self-aware and self-confident, to acknowledge workplace tensions and flourish through them and to be their real, authentic selves.
As well as hearing speakers from the Metropolitan Police Service who talked about their own experiences as women in the force and leadership in general, participants took part in exercises and developed mission statements and career maps.
This is the latest female leadership development work to be delivered by Capp’s Talent Solutions team. For the last seven years it has worked with a large technology multi-national on an Emerging Women in Leadership programme designed to develop and encourage female leadership.
“Several studies show a positive relationship between the proportion of female board members and sales growth as well as more gender-balanced boards being more efficient monitors of the CEO,” said Stephanie Hopper, Head of Talent Solutions at Capp.
“We have been delighted to work with the Metropolitan Police Service on this and in such an important year for female police officers. Eighteen months after the Service appointed its first female Commissioner, we hope our work can give participants the confidence and knowledge to develop into senior roles in the future,” added Stephanie.
Capp is a talent technology company with 120 staff and offices in London, Birmingham and Sydney.
